The Free Union Community will have a chance to talk to VDOT officials about the proposed closure of the road facility in that area. The proposed closure is a cost cutting measure aimed at downsizing the amount of statewide headquarters from 335 to 234. VDOT says that the closures will not affect service in those areas however some area leaders are skeptical.

"It would seem to me to be very difficult to maintain the level of service and response times that they have today in that quadrant of the County if that area headquarters is not there. I could be wrong about that," said Chairman of the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors Dennis Rooker.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. tonight at the Free Union Baptist Church on Millington Road. VDOT expects to make a final decision about all of the closures some time in the middle of December.
