The blowing, swirling and hissing makes enough snow to cover 125 acres at Wintergreen.
"It's the most technologically advanced snow making system in the world. We are the only ski area on the east coast that has this system," said Slope Services Manager Scott Gunnell.
The computerized system calculates the humidity and temperature to make the right kind of snow and can be up and running in just 15 minutes.
"We started Sunday at 1 in the afternoon and haven't stopped since," said Gunnell.
Now they are making the base layer of snow, which is a lot harder and should last for months, but on top of that will be powdery snow, which should be up and ready for the opening on Saturday.
"We should be up and running and to full capacity in a week or week and a half as long as mother nature cooperates," said Ski and Recreation Services Manager James Patterson.
