A wealthy benefactor is looking to buy First Christian Church on West Market Street and turn it over to COMPASS day shelter.
Right now both parties are waiting for city council to grant them a special permit.
It's a location that would better serve those in need.
“This way we can provide them an appropriate place to come during the day when otherwise they'd be at Lee Park or in the library or hanging around the downtown mall,” said Dave Norris, Executive Director of PACEM.
There are roughly two hundred homeless people in the Charlottesville and Albemarle County area.
