Five people were found dead inside a Culpeper home late Sunday night. The county sheriff says investigators are focusing on the father as the likely shooter
Law enforcement officials have confirmed the adult victims are Clarence and Shauna Washington, both 35-years-old. Family members tell CBS19 that the Washington's three daughters - 13-year-old Omesha, 6-year-old Onia and 4-year-old Olivia - were the apparent victims of a murder-suicide. They were all found inside a home in the 14000 block of Rixeyville Road at 10 P.M. All five people died of gunshot wounds.
The mother of Shauna Washington says she discovered the bodies after the family did not show up for church Sunday morning.
Sheriff's and family of the victims believe Clarence Washington shot and killed his wife, Shauna and their three daughters.
A cousin of Shauna Washington says she's angry and wants answers.
“I'm sad, I'm mad, and there are no answers still yet for us,” says Nicole Minor-Melvin. “Shauna is gone and three beautiful babies are gone.”
She says the daughters, ages 4, 6, and 13 were all excited to start school in the coming weeks, but now family has to shift focus as they prepare for their funerals.
“Olivia was four she was getting ready to start pre-k along with some cousins,” says Minor-Melvin. “Her life was getting ready to get started.”
“Four-years-old, 13, 6, Shauna is 35; her mom has to bury not just a daughter, but three granddaughters.”
We do have these situations where domestic situations go bad and there are murder suicides occasionally through the years, but I can't say I can recall an entire family this happening in Culpeper history that I know of.
A family friend who spoke off camera says that when the Washington’s didn't come to church on Sunday he got worried and called nearly 20 times before coming out to the house with the mother of Shauna Washington. She later discovered their bodies and called the police.
Family of the Washington’s is hoping to get help from the community in funding their funerals. If you are interested in donating you can contact the Horizon Funeral Home in Culpeper (540) 825-9838.
