Just before midnight Friday, Charlottesville police were called to Friendship Court in the 400 block of Garrett Street after someone heard gunshots.

When they arrived they found 29-year-old Tobyn Ross lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

Mr. Ross was taken to UVa Medical Center for treatment.

Just before eight o'clock Saturday morning, he died from his injuries.

His body will be taken to the state medical examiners office in Richmond for an autopsy.

At this time police are working on several leads, but still need help from the community.

“If there was anybody that was out in the area last night where the incident occurred if they saw anything or heard anything it would certainly be helpful to the detectives working on the case right now,” said Lieutenant Mike Dean.

If you have any information you are asked to call the Charlottesville Police at 434-970-3280 and ask for Detective Harris or Detective Woodzell.
