The rain on New Year's Eve wasn't enough to stop hundreds of people from taking part in 'First Night Virginia' events on the downtown mall.

The event typically brings about 10,000 people to the downtown mall every year.

The night was full of a diverse range of activities and performances including choirs, dance groups and even a short film festival.

This year is also very special because it's the 25th anniversary of First Night Virginia on the downtown mall; a landmark year in a long history of family fun.

The fireworks presentation at midnight was canceled because of the rain.
