While legislators are hashing out issues on Capitol Hill local high school students were holding their own model Congress here in Charlottesville.
Students from Western Albemarle and Monticello High Schools pretended to be members of Congress and simulated the process of passing bills. The students said they learned more at the mock Congress than sitting in a classroom.
“Actually, talking about the bills and writing about the bills actually gave me a good idea of what it was like,” said High School Senior Anna Greer.
The students say they gained a greater appreciation for those working in government and the complex process of passing legislation.
