Mike Comer, the missing man who used to control the finances at Glenmore Country Club, is back with his family and charged with five counts of embezzlement.

Comer appeared via video in Albemarle County Court for a bond hearing Tuesday morning. Bond was set at $50,000 and Comer was ordered to surrender his passport.

Comer left the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail, after posting bond. He appears to have lost weight and grown a beard.

Wintergreen employees tell CBS19 that Comer was not staying at the Mountain Inn, but did travel to the Inn at Wintergreen to call his wife. Employees say Comer told his wife to call police and have them pick him up so he could turn himself in.

Comer disappeared nearly a month ago in the midst of a financial audit of books he controlled as treasurer of the Glenmore Homeowners Association. Comer also worked as president of Glenmore Country Club and money flowed between the club and the homeowners. That audit revealed nearly $700,000 in missing funds.

Comer was supposed to meet with the auditor on the day he vanished nearly a month ago. His family thought he had gone hiking at Wintergreen Resort where they own property.

Residents of Glenmore have mixed reaction to the news.

"I'm a retired lawyer and I'm not too sympathetic to criminals and embezzlers if that's what happened, and Mike Comer is going to have to pay the price for what he did," said resident Lou Kauder.

"We're very happy to hear that he's here and well and we have the highest regard for him and his family," said resident Doris Crane.

Comer is due back in court in September.
