President Bush has proclaimed Tuesday "Religious Freedom Day" across the country.
Mister Bush said the day is to commemorate the passage of the 1786 Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom.
The president said the freedom to worship is a "gift from the almighty." Bush also said "Religious Freedom Day" is to celebrate America's right to worship freely.
"We should be reminded of it almost every day, but if we manage to think about it once a year on January 16th, that is okay. We get the message," said Religion Expert Robert O'Neil.
The 1786 Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom was authored by Thomas Jefferson.
