A Charlottesville man is behind bars for allegedly trying to rob a gas station. Albemarle police say, early Thursday morning Randolph Coleman showed up at the "Stop In" on Richmond Road, armed with a pipe, and demanded money.

The clerk refused to give in to the demand and Coleman took off. While police were investigating the scene, Coleman was spotted driving past the store.

A short car chase started, but Coleman was able to escape. He crashed his truck into two parked cars along Coleman Court. He was later arrested at the University of Virginia Medical Center emergency room.

Coleman is charged with attempted armed robbery, attempt to elude police, and two counts of hit and run.
