We introduced you to the Charlottesville Police Department's first female lieutenant earlier this week and now, it's official.
Wendy Lewis and four other officers were promoted at a ceremony Friday. Lewis is now the highest ranking female officer in the city of Charlottesville.
“I'm excited for all the support that was out here today for everyone that was promoted,” said Lewis.
“Her mother and I are just overwhelmed with pride and joy for Wendy,” said Lewis’ father David Coffey.
Lewis will wear the lieutenant bars of her former supervisor who recently died of a heart attack.
Also, Detective Lee Sidebottom was promoted to Sergeant and Detective Randy Higgins was also promoted to sergeant.
