Albemarle High School students are hoping to lend their support to two athletes who tragically lost their mothers in a car crash this weekend.
Monticello High School Football and Basketball Player Rod Jackson and Albemarle High School Football Player Jerrod Smith were in the car. They were driving back from a recruiting trip to Bucknell University with their mothers Odessa Smith and Thomasina Bryant. Both mothers died in a weather related accident on I-81 in Winchester.
Those who knew the moms said they left a lasting impact on their children.
"When he gives you that smile you just kind of melt and that was his mom; Odessa just walked around with a big smile on her face and she never greeted you without a grin and without giving you a big hug," said Albemarle High School Head Football Coach Rick Vrhovac.
"She's just a bright light; a sweet soul that all of us will miss," said Albemarle High Athletic Director Deb Tyson of Smith.
A scholarship fund is being set up for both students.
A memorial service for Bryant will be held on Saturday at 2PM.
