After an overnight accident involving a tractor trailer carrying beer, motorists on Route 33 faced possible delays while the road was repaired.
VDOT crews worked to fix the road on the 5400 block of Spotswood Trail in Penn Laird where the crash happened around 11 p.m. Sunday. Both westbound lanes were closed overnight.
Virginia State Police say Leroy Propst Jr. was driving a tractor trailer when he ran off the road. The truck's back tires flew off and the truck was flipped on its side.
Propst was taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Although the tractor trailer was loaded with beer, alcohol was not a factor in this crash.
VSP Trooper David Fisher says, "Coors has a company out here cleaning up the spill of the beer and VDOT has to do some patchwork to the road from the that was damaged because of the crash and the cleanup."
State Police say Propst was perhaps having an allergic reaction to medication when he took his eyes off the road. He's been charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain proper control.
While he wasn't arrested, Propst could face a prison sentence and a $2,500 fine.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
