A different kind of art exhibit opened up at the McGuffey art center on Friday.

Artwork created by inmates at the Albemarle Regional Jail is on showcase to be sold.

Half of the proceeds will go to support a local homeless shelter for men and women.

The artwork was created through a special program run by the jail that allows inmates to express themselves through art.

"They have interests in many talents and many skills and gifts. This is just a way of providing them with an opportunity to express that or to learn a new talent or skill and they enjoy that very much," said Phyllis Back, Program Coordinator with the jail.

The show runs until February 25th.
