Charlottesville Police are investigating an increased amount of thefts from cars around the University area in the past several weeks. Police have seen several dozen cases where an iPod is left in plain view, a passerby sees the items, smashes the window with a rock and steals it. Police say they need the public's help to fight this crime.
"We can't be in all of the places in the University Area so what we are asking is when you get out of your vehicle, make sure and put all of your valuables in a hidden place. If you are going to leave it inside your vehicle, put it in a hidden place and make sure your car is locked," said Sgt. Letroy Durrette.
Police say they have increased patrols around the area to try and catch the perpetrators responsible for the crimes.
