Holistic health balances the body as a whole--which includes the physical body, mind, emotions, and spirit.
"In holistic health we consider the natural state of being as one of wellness and that if there is illness or disease that the person is out of balance," said Herbalist and Nutritionist Terri Saunders, who owns Sunrise Herb Shoppe.
That happens when toxins build up in the body, from polluted air, water, chemicals, but especially unhealthy diets.
"Because we can't break down these foods and digest them or assimilate them, they build up in the system and become toxic wastes and sit in the system and stresses the entire body," Saunders said.
Natural therapies assume people have the ability to heal themselves, but often need assistance.
"In holistic health we really work in a focused way to help to stay healthy and to work preventatively to keep a clean, well maintained system so that we don't get sick," said Saunders.
It's a natural cellular defense, which helps with overall wellness and draws toxic residue out of the body. The drops go in water, which has a mild taste.
Saunders recommends herbs over chemical drugs because they are natural and not toxic to the body, which can cause side affects.
"So when we're coughing and blowing our nose, that's the body's attempt to get rid of our toxins. When we take a medication that suppresses that natural response that the body has, then we're not really doing anything to heal the condition. What we are doing is we are just stopping the symptom," Saunders said. "So what the herbs do is they address the cause of the problem and they actually help the body to heal."
