When schools close due to weather, many parents in our area can’t afford to take personal days from work, which is why Albemarle County has set up an inclement weather program for local families.
“The inclement is a program that we offer during inclement weather. The program runs the second day after school closing,” said Claudia Wert, the program supervisor for Albemarle County.
On snow days, parents can drop their kids off at Greer Elementary for all day supervision, but the students must be pre-registered through the counties after school programs.
Other parents just bring their kids along on their own errands, like going to the gym.
“When the kids come in there’s a higher volume of kids in the childcare just because of the school bring canceled. Parents still want to come in and work out,” said Daniel Harper, with Gold’s Gym in Charlottesville.
