Volunteer firefighter Robert Wyant was arrested Friday and is being accused of murdering an eight month old baby girl.

Police are not saying much but they believe that they have a strong case against the man that they arrested.

Wyant is being charged with second degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, and felony child abuse. The victim was died in November last year in Albemarle County.

A jury handed down the indictments Friday which are sealed. Police are keeping details of the investigation quiet.

"Its the tragic death of an eight month old baby girl, and I can't talk about the circumstances nor can I discuss what actually happened. That will all come out in due time in court. We don't want to jeopardize the case and we are also trying to protect the privacy of the family" said Albemarle County Police Lieutenant John Teixeira.

Wyant is being held at the regional jail without bond. No trial date has been set yet in the trial. If convicted he could face up to 40 years in prison.
