Webb And Warner Want Changes In Iraq

February 13, 2007

Virginia senators Jim Webb and John Warner spoke in Richmond Monday saying that they wanted to see policy changes concerning the war in Iraq.

They said that they want a policy that gets American troops out of the sectarian violence and more responsibility for the Iraqi military. Warner says that he doesn't outright oppose the President, but that there should be more Iraqi involvement.

"I said respectfully, Mr. President we have trained over 300,000 Iraqi soldiers policemen and other security services and that's an enormous investment and we should put them to the test in the Baghdad operation to a far greater degree than I feel envisioned by the program" said Senator Warner.

Senator Jim Webb questioned how to deal with the insurgency and the wisdom of the troop surge in and around Baghdad.
