The city of Charlottesville has traditionally favored Democrats, yet that didn't stop city GOP leaders Thursday from presenting their brand new party platform on the Downtown Mall.

While touching on topics like education, public housing and economic opportunity, the party chairman says they've got a lot of work to do to sell their platform in such a heavily Democratic city.

"It's always an uphill battle," said party chair Charles Weber, adding, "we've got to fight. But you've got to get out there and be willing to stand up for what you believe in and what you're promoting for, not just against."

The Charlottesville Republican platform intentionally does not address contentious issues such as the Meadowcreek Parkway or the area's long-term water supply plan.
