Friday, a ribbon cutting ceremony was held to unveil the new entrance that includes a new road, ticket booth, and bridge leading into the president's home.
Until now, everyone entering had to cross a one lane bridge, making it hard for rescue crews to reach the home in case of an emergency.
“Prior to this new bridge, emergency vehicles and fire trucks had to take a very long and circuitous route. This new bridge will reduce that travel time more than half,” said Montpelier President, Michael Quinn.
All in all, construction toped out at $2.8 million and took less than a year to complete. Over 100,000 people visit Montpelier each year.
