Dozens of kids and parents filled the sidewalks in Crozet Friday morning, taking part in the monthly Walk to School Day at Crozet Elementary.

Although, Ella and Jim Duncan live about a mile away from Crozet Elementary, they could not wait to lace up their walking shoes and hit the road. They say the walk is more than just a way to exercise…it's also a bonding experience.

"Because I like spending time with my dada," said Ella Duncan.

Crozet Elementary Walk to School Day campaign has been going on for the past three years. Currently, about 100 kids and parents take part each month.

"We're walking to school because it's time for me to spend with my daughter and it's healthier. It's easy, almost a mile walk, no reason not to walk other than time," said Jim Duncan.

Duncan says the walk was filled with great conversation and even a quick detour for breakfast.

"We talked about school, talked about the dog, talked birds and bugs, running on the side walk; it was just a good walk," he said.

And the Duncan’s were not the only pedestrians out and about Friday morning. Several other parents and kids were also along for the walk, including event organizer, John O'Connor. He says the trip to school on four wheels is just as easily taken on two feet.

"It's no more [time] than getting to the school bus getting on the bus and getting to school, so really it doesn't take any more time. It's more fun and healthier," said O'Connor.

The Duncan’s agree. They both had a great time and say they would like to walk to school more often.

Virtual school bus it has been tried many times in my community-600 home live within 1 mile of the school. The idea is good but parents are told by the community-not the school system to look at the "watch dog site" to see the 3 registered preditors that live on the walk/trail to school. Be careful.
