"This intersection here is one of the worst ones" said Rob Gibson, driver.

"It's certainly one of the fastest roads in Charlottesville, carries a lot of people on it and has a lot of bad accidents" said Andrew Barros, CARS.

They're both talking about the 250 bypass, the most dangerous road in the city according to police.

"The majority of our fatalities have occurred on the 250 bypass" said Gary Pleasants, Charlottesville Police.

Four people were killed in two months in 2005 and although no one died in the more than 140 accidents on the bypass last year, many suffered serious injuries.

We have cars run into other cars, roll over on their tops and telephone poles cut in half.

The second road topping the list is Emmett Street. This strip of road sees far more accidents than any other street in the city and the only reason it doesn't top the list of dangerous streets is because the accidents tend to be minor.

"They are low speed low damage accidents" said Pleasants.

All total police say there were over 400 accidents on Emmett Street last year. Other dangerous roads include Preston Avenue, Barracks Road, from Mcintyre through 5th Street, West Main, Jefferson Park Avenue, Hydraulic Road and Market Street.

Yet the biggest surprise may have been Old Lynchburg Road. Although dozens of drivers are caught speeding down that street and residents are calling to close the road there were only

"Two accidents on Old Lynchburg Road and both of those minor" said Pleasants.

Police say their study of dangerous roads is part of a problem solving project trying to make streets safer in Charlottesville.

There was only one fatal accident in 2006 and that was on Fifth Street.
