One person was killed in a car crash on Irish Road in Albemarle County Friday morning. It happened at 8:38 just east of Sharon Road in the Schuyler area.
Police have identified the victim as Ashley D. Turlington, 24 years-old, of Campbell County.
Police said Turlington was headed east on Irish road when her vehicle went off onto the right shoulder. She steered back to the left, over-corrected and lost control. Her SUV went down an embankment and hit several trees. Turlington was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they are still investigating what caused the accident. At this point, they don't believe speed played a role. Alcohol was not a factor. The road was wet at the time.
Turlington was wearing a seat belt.
Irish Road was closed for four hours as police investigated the wreck.
