Congressman Robert Hurt and Candidate John Douglass had their turn to talk about issues in the 5th District Wednesday night in Danville.
Both candidates took the stage with lots of energy telling voters through various topics why they should be chosen to represent the 5th district in Washington.
Hurt said he will continue to work in Congress, with a bipartisan effort, to get Americans, young and old, back to work. He says democrats and the President are getting in the way of any progress.
Douglass spoke about his experiences in the military and the work he's done right alongside different Presidents, saying America needs more soldiers in Congress
Healthcare, legalization of marijuana, education, sequestration, or automatic budget cuts, were all topics during Wednesday night's debate but both candidates agreed that jobs are really what the people of 5th district are counting on.
"I've worked for Presidents in the Republican side, I've worked for Presidents in the Democratic side and I know how to create jobs and I know how to put the people in the 5th district back to work," Douglass said.
"For the last year and a half we on the House side have worked, we have worked for bipartisan legislation that would create jobs, that would reduce regulation, would reduce costs," Hurt said.
The candidates will debate again on October 15th in Warrenton.
