People are concerned about the well being of several horses living on a farm in the Keswick area. Sources tell CBS19 the six horses in questionable health live on a farm off of Maxfield Road, near the intersection of Maxfield Road and Route 22. They say the animals have been getting skinnier over the last weeks.

A picture taken by an eyewitness and sent to CBS 19 shows five horses in view. One of the horse's ribs are showing and the bones are protruding from its back. Another picture shows the horses' water trough completely empty, and our sources say there has not been water in it. They also say hay turned up on the property this weekend, but they still worry the horses could be in danger in the current conditions.

While CBS19 was on the road outside of the farm, a man stopped by claiming to be the owner of the horses. He told our photographer he feeds the horses every day, and added that he had to put one of the horses down a few days ago due to an illness.

Albemarle County Police tell CBS19 they are aware of the situation, and they are investigating.

The other horses in this picture look healthy, could it possibly be the one pictured is in ill health and was being cared for and someone jumped the gun?
