An eco-friendly house is on the move in Charlottesville. University of Virginia Engineering and Architecture students designed and built the energy efficient home for Habitat for Humanity.
Thursday, a truck hauled the modular house to its permanent site on Elliot Avenue in Charlottesville.
It was built off-site at an old airport hangar at UVa.
"They are protected from sun, wind, and all the issues you have dealing with building on site," says Alison Singer, a UVa Architecture Student. "You get rid of those variables, so you can build there through the day, night, and whatever the weather may be."
Dominion Virginia Power provided systems to heat and cool the home. The students will be evaluating the home and monitoring its systems to see if it's as efficient as they planned.
