New developments on the investigation into underfed horses in the Keswick area of Albemarle County: Police tell CBS19 that Animal Control seized two malnourished horses from a farm off of Maxfield Road Tuesday.
The horses are recovering at a rescue shelter in Richmond. Police haven't filed any charges, but they say the investigation is ongoing.
Several people were concerned about the well-being of the horses living on the farm. Sources told CBS19 a week ago that the six horses in questionable health lived on a farm off of Maxfield Road, near the intersection of Maxfield Road and Route 22. They say the animals kept getting skinnier.
A picture taken by an eyewitness, and sent to the Newsplex shows five horses in view. One of the horse's ribs are showing, and the bones are protruding from its back. Another picture shows the horses' water trough completely empty.
While CBS19 was on the road outside of the farm, a man stopped by claiming to be the owner of the horses. He told our photographer he feeds the horses every day, and added that he had to put one of the horses down due to an illness.
