In an attempt to bring science down to size, students at Stone-Robinson Elementary School in Albemarle County had their annual Egg Drop Day Monday afternoon.
The tradition is very popular at the school. Fifth graders designed a variety of devices to soften the landing for eggs dropped from atop the school roof. While all students agree that it's fun to see the eggs splat on the pavement, they also take the project seriously.
"Some of them broke, and some of them I don't think were planned as well too. This chance will give us a really good thing to design again," said Emarie Drake.
The students worked on their egg contraptions for about three weeks before Monday's challenge. Typically, more than two-thirds of the eggs survived the trip down from the roof.
