At 3:30 on Friday afternoon, Buckingham County Sheriff's Office were called out to Route 20 and Slate River Bridge for a report of shots fired at a vehicle.
They searched the area and nothing was found.
About an hour later, they received another 911 call regarding a man with a gunshot wound at 2733 Ranson Road.
When they arrived on the scene they wound the victim lying on the ground with several apparent gunshot wounds to the body.
The victim is identified as Clarence M. Austin of Buckingham.
Deputies are not sure why the body was left at this location.
According to witnesses who were at the scene, apparently Mr. Austin was a passenger in the car with the shooter when something went wrong.
Witnesses saw three black men outside the vehicle shooting at Austin, who was still in the car.
The suspects then got back into he car and headed north on Route 20.
