According to mapquest.com, it's about 400 miles from the steps of the John Paul Jones box office, all the way to the Nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio. Ticket or no ticket, the distance isn’t stopping any Cavalier fans from planning on making that trip.
All around town Monday Virginia fans were smiling.
“I was pretty shocked that we were a four seed, especially after the last couple of games,” said Michael Bowen, UVa student.
“I was very pleased that they were seeded so close to Charlottesville,” said UVa student, Logan Riddick.
However, much of the excitement was crushed when students woke up this morning to some bad news.
“We woke up to find out if we were awarded one of the tickets and I wasn't,” said
Many of those who were able to purchase tickets were alumni and others who frequently donate to the Virginia athletic fund, and for those fans the first thing on their list was to book a flight.
“With travel packages to the sports packages, we normally include the air and the hotel,” said Jane Dorrier, Global Travel Agency
Dorrier is a UVa Alum herself and said she’s prepared to help fans make it up to Columbus.
“That’s so important to give that support to the team, it makes such a difference,” said Dorrier.
And the students are prepared to get there and make a difference by any means necessary.
“One of my friends, who has a ticket, he’s from Ohio and he has a lot of friends who go to Ohio University, so were just going to stay there,” said Bowen.
“I was able to just get a ticket by becoming a member of the Long Beach State University 49 donors club,” said Riddick. “I made a nice $100 donation to their donors club, and I was then able to purchase a session one ticket for Friday afternoon for $61.”
For all others there is always CBS 19. You can catch our March Madness special airing Wednesday night at 7:30.
