State Police Cracking Down On Speeders

March 12, 2007

State police are cracking down again on speeders on Virginia's interstates. Virginia is launching a fifth wave of Operation Air, Land and Speed with extra patrols along Interstate 64 on Friday, March 23rd, and Saturday, March 24th.

Troopers will be all over a 200 mile stretch of I-64 from Staunton to Chesapeake with roving patrols, radar and aerial speed enforcement.

Lt. Colonel Eugene Stockton, director of field operations for state police says that traffic fatalities have been rising in Virginia. Stockton also says 21 traffic deaths over the 2006 Fourth of July holiday weekend made it the deadliest Independence Day since 1997.
