Spotsylvania Mall Locked Down After Robbery

March 12, 2007

The Spotsylvania Towne Centre Mall had about a 90 minute lockdown Tuesday afternoon afternoon after police say two men robbed an armored car.

Officers were posted at all exits as people left the mall, but did not allow anyone else in. According to Spotsylvania authorities the robbery took place at the rear entrance of the mall.

Spotsylvania Sheriff Howard Smith said a security guard told investigators that he was confronted and stopped by two men as he was leaving the mall with a store's deposit.

Smith says they then restrained the guard with plastic flex cuffs and then ran back in to the mall with the money and the guard's gun.
