Investigators are looking into a house fire in the Lake Monticello community on 32 Turkeysag Trail in Fluvanna County. Authorities say no one was injured in the fire, but a family of six and their pet are homeless after the fire destroyed much of the home Monday afternoon.
The Red Cross is providing shelter for the married couple and their four children Monday night.
Fire officials are still investigating to determine what caused the fire. They say it started in the back of the home and spread to half of the house. Firefighters put out the blaze about five minutes.
While officials do not know how much the damage will total, they are saying that the damage is going to be substantial.
This is the second fire in two weeks to strike the Lake Monticello community. A cigarette was to blame for the first fire, which destroyed a home just a few blocks away from Turkeysag Road earlier in October. However, firefighters say the proximity of the fires is not unusual and merely coincidental.
