Governor Tim Kaine will meet with Republican lawmakers on Thursday to try and reach a compromise on the transportation legislation. Kaine calls the Republican authored bill a starting point but not a solution.
Delegate Terry Kilgore and House Majority Leader Morgan Griffith, who will be at that meeting, said that they would probably agree with some of Kaine's amendments but oppose others.
Kaine met privately with three regions last week to discuss their thoughts on the transportation plan. Some of those officials asked if the state could levy some of the additional regional taxes and fees.
Kaine has until March 26 to make his amendments before sending it to the General Assembly.
