Three Intensive Care Units at UVA Medical Center are being awarded for excellence.
The Beacon Award recognizes hospital departments for things like excellent staff communication, high patient satisfaction and overall high-quality care.
UVA is the only hospital in the nation to receive three of these prestigious awards.
"You put it all together and it speaks volumes for the quality of care that's given here at UVA," said Gary Jones, a registered nurse in one of the unites that was awarded.
"As a teaching facility, everybody really is interested in being the best they can be, and learning what they can, and to do the best for the patients that they can," said Victor Somers, also a registered nurse.
The three Intensive Care Units at UVA that received the awards, were chosen out of more than 70 other similar ICU's across the nation.
