The Virginia Department of Transportation says the eastbound side of I-64 was closed at milepost 173 in Goochland County due to a truck accident involving hazardous materials.
Officials say that around 8am Monday morning a tropper checked on what appeared to be a disabled vehicle. The truck was carrying pool chemicals, including chlorine.
Officials say there was a reaction with the chemicals in the back of the truck.Henrico County HAZMAT crews responded to the scene and neutralized the chemical reaction.
Authorities say the hazardous materials incident was no hazard to the public, but they did say one exposure to the chemicals caused a minor injury. The woman who came in contact with the substance was treated and released at the scene.
The left lane of I-64 eastbound reopened around 10am. VDOT says motorists can still expect significant delays in the area of the Exit 173/Route 623 interchange.
