Man Charged In Death Of Franklin County Minister

April 11, 2007

A man has been charged in the death of a Franklin County minister. Charles Vincent Cobler was arraigned Wednesday morning, charged with the first-degree murder of Nancy Copin.

Cobler did not enter a plea in Franklin County General District Court. Copin's body was found last week in her home, the parsonage of Snow Creek Christian Church. An official says she died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Cobler is being held without bond and a preliminary hearing is set for June 14th. Cliff Hapgood, Commonwealth's attorney, says that it hasn't been determined yet whether more charges will be filed as the investigation continues.

Cobler was arrested in Ohio on Sunday on unrelated charges and was returned to Franklin County after Franklin County authorities went to Ohio to assist in the surveillance of a vehicle linked to Cobler.

Copin became the minister of the small Franklin County church after coming from a suburban church in Birmingham, Alabama.
