John and Jennifer Raymond started the Carson Raymond Foundation in October, when their son Carson died of apparent complication due to the Swine Flu.
The Carson Raymond Softball Tournament this Sunday is just the first of many events the foundation will hold. The event is expected to raise more than $2,000 for the foundation, which continues to grow.
The 12-team softball tournament will be held at Darden Towe Park Sunday, November 15. All proceeds will go toward the foundation. John Raymond says everything has been donated for the tournament, from the field space to the concessions.
Through the foundation, the Raymond family's goal is to re-build the tee ball field at Woodbrook Elementary, where Carson went to school. However, John Raymond says they are not going to stop at Woodbrook.
"We want to bring the foundation to other schools that need fields. So, once we finish the first project, we will be looking for the next school that needs a field," he said.
Renovations are scheduled to start on the Woodbrook tee ball field on November 22, and John Raymond says the University of Virginia baseball team has volunteered its time to help.
The Carson Raymond Foundation is also holding a 150-person poker tournament in late November.
