As the economy comes out of its slump, attention in Charlottesville is focusing on several major developments either in the works or already under way.
Jessica Jaglois profiles three projects that have the potential to have a big impact on the local economy. If this list of proposed developments comes to fruition, the face of Charlottesville will undoubtedly change.
Three of the largest developments in our area boil down to this: one is nearing completion, one is near death, and one hasn't yet sprung to life.
The project nearing completion is Martha Jefferson's new facility on Pantops Mountain.

At more than half a million square feet, it boasts almost 200 beds, so each patient will have a private room.
The hospital will include outdoor walking trails for patients,. Also, 90% of workers are hired locally.
Near death is the Landmark Hotel. The indefinitely stalled luxury hotel located on the Downtown Mall broke ground in March of 2008.

With the bank that backed the Landmark dissolved, and numerous lawsuits between owner Halsey Minor and his developer, until all the lawsuits are settled and the dust is all down, no one even knows if it could be sold.
Then there's Albemarle Place. The 65-acre lot will eventually house a mixed-use development with residential, retail, office, and hotel space.

Initial plans for Albemarle Place were approved back in 2003, but Albemarle County's sewer system wasn't able to handle the two million square foot structure.
A final site plan and sewer connection is still needed before this project can get underway.
Three developments with very different futures, each with the potential of changing Charlottesville.
Jessica's List:
1) New Martha Jefferson Hospital
2) Landmark Hotel
3) Albemarle Place (corner of Route 29 and Hydraulic Road)

I'm glad ULC is upfront with their post, but it is still in poor taste. This is not the place to sing your own praise or advirtise about what your company does. Otherwise, I thought Jessica hit the nail on the head with her picks. I do wonder, though, how all the developments in Crozet will affect that little town in the long run.
