Governor Tim Kaine has teamed up with the governors of West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania, signing a charter to preserve the Appalachian Highlands.
The Highlands Action Program Charter is a regional partnership program seeking to preserve the ecological and cultural resources of the Mid-Atlantic Appalachian Highlands.
Kaine calls the region a "unique area both from a cultural and ecological standpoint."
The four states have committed to help their governments, organizations and businesses to revitalize damaged ecosystems and enhance restoration industry opportunities that will provide long-term jobs to area residents of the Appalachian Highlands.
