Investigators are releasing new information about what Morgan Harrington was doing when she was last seen after leaving a Metallica concert at John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville on October 17.
The Virginia State Police released this statement:
Based on independent witness accounts, investigators are confident that Miss Harrington was hitchhiking for a ride while on the Copeley Road bridge. If anyone recalls seeing a young woman hitchhiking that night on or near the Copeley Road bridge, then they are asked to please contact police by phone or email. Anyone who might remember seeing a vehicle randomly stopped in the roadway on Copeley Road bridge that night is also asked to contact investigators.
Investigators are also hoping to hear from anyone who might have loaned their cell phone to a young woman fitting Miss Harrington’s description to make a call that night.
Police also released a photo of a necklace Harrington was wearing on the night she disappeared. You can click on the photo gallery tab above to see pictures of the necklace.

It is very sad that JPJ security uses a "no re-entry" rule and has no security person monitoring the outside of the arena. What Ms Harrington may have left the arena for once she was inside is not being told. Seems pretty callous on the part of so called "security" not to have someone available outside the arena who could evaluate re-entry on a case by case basis and help those separated from their friends find each other again.
I agree, I believe her friends must know more. Why didn't they come for her when she called them? And why would they have her car keys and let her find a ride back if her car was already there? It just doesn't add up. Something is not being said.
The first line of the comment from Steve Smith (Richmond, VA): Don't assume that because the flowers are on one side of the bridge, that they are on the proper side.... Doesn't that sound like he knows something? Authorities, please check into this.
