An Albemarle County resident and student at Virginia Tech was in Norris Hall Monday and witnessed the shooting rampage.
Nikolas Macko was among those who witnessed the shooting rampage. He gives an account of what happened.
"I was just in class. It starts at 9:05 and about 9:40, 9:41 I heard outside the room a number of shots and didn't even register what it was with us in the classroom and then a pause and more shots and that's the point when my classmates and I figured out that, yes, this is gunshots and one of my classmates sitting right by the door she looked out in the hall and saw the shooter and closed the door immediately," said Macko.
The students then barricaded themselves in classrooms to keep the gunman out.
