Tax Department Gives Virginia Tech Extension

April 18, 2007

The Virginia Department of Taxation is giving those affected by the shooting at Virginia Tech an extra six months to file and pay their state income taxes.

The extension mirrors the one given Tuesday by the IRS. The Virginia Department of Taxation says the extension applies to victims, their families, emergency responders, and university students and employees.

Virginia taxpayers affected by the events have until November 1st to file and make payments associated with their 2006 individual tax returns due May 1st.

The extension also applies to estimated payments due on May 1st. Taxpayers need to write Virginia Tech across the top of the tax return in order to claim the extension. Anyone with questions can call 804-367-8031.
