The local economy could see a boost in late 2010 when the Defense Intelligence Agency moves into the Rivanna Station National Ground Intelligence Center campus. The DIA is expected to bring several hundred employees to the area and they are about to start the hiring process for 100 more positions.
"This job fair is an opportunity for local residents who may have the skills and experience necessary to have a chance to apply for open jobs with them," said Albemarle County spokeswoman, Lee Catlin.
According to the DIA hiring event pamphlet, they are looking for people with backgrounds in:
- Science (Chemists, Biologists, Physicists, Nuclear Engineers, Geologists, Forensics)
- Analysis (Weapons of Mass Destruction, Foreign Disclosure, Foreign Language Capabilities in Pashtu, Farsi, Mandarin and Arabic)
- Engineering (Mathematical, Mechanical, Chemical and Electrical)
- Facilities and Logistics (Building Engineers, Mail Operations)
- Security (Police Officers)
- Program Management
Charlottesville Chamber of Commerce president Tim Hulbert says these will be high salaries that could bring millions of dollars into the local economy.
"That's $64 million dollars that gets used in stores, gets used at schools and churches and in our economy," said Hulbert ."That's a tremendous boost in our economy."
People interested in applying have until late Tuesday, November 24 to apply before midnight. If you are applying, check out the application on the DIA's website: https://diajobs.dia.mil. Be sure to fill it out completely and accurately. If you are selected to interview on December 14, 2009, you will receive an invitation about one week before.

where can i apply for one of these jobs?
"Fewer than 40 per cent of Charlottesville's adults pay any fderal taxes at all since over 60 per cent of the electorate sponges off of public assistance programs". Where do you get your statisics, Ron? Are you personally filing the income tax returns for every working person in the city? An individual not having a federal tax liability does not make them a "sponger." There are many people and businesses that have ample income and yet pay little or no federal tax for a variety of reasons. I know hundreds of people in this town, nearly every one is hard working and honest. Try not to disparage complete strangers when you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.
Hey Brandon---the jobs are in the county, not the city, and Charlottesville is a "city of welfare" rather than a "city of peace." Fewer than 40 per cent of Charlottesville's adults pay any fderal taxes at all since over 60 per cent of the electorate sponges off of public assistance programs.
