Last month, Capitol police arrested an aide to Senator Jim Webb after he walked into a Senate office building with a loaded pistol. Those charges have now been dropped.
The aide, Philip Thompson, had all charges against him dismissed. Webb said in a statement that he considered Thompson "a trusted aide and a fine man."
"After reviewing and analyzing all of the evidence in the case, we do not believe the essential elements of the crime of carrying a pistol without a license can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt," said U.S. Attorney Jeff Taylor.
"I am happy that Philip and his family can now put this incident behind them," said Webb.
