The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has identified a suspect in the bank robbery of the Wachovia Bank located on Route 3 in Orange County on March 13, 2009.
At the time of the robbery police said they were looking for a light-skinned black male or Hispanic male. He was described as 6-foot-3-inches tall and 185 pounds, and may have been wearing a white hoodie. Police were unsure what kind of weapon was involved or how much money was taken in the robbery. Nine people were inside the bank at the time of the robbery, but no injuries were reported.
Gordon G. Phillips II of Culpeper Virginia is currently being held in the Fauquier County Jail under no bond on other bank robbery charges. Authorities say information has been obtained that leads them to believe Phillips is the same individual that robbed the Wachovia in Locust Grove in Orange County.
This Orange County Sheriff's Office has conferred with the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Diana Wheeler, and anticipate charges in the upcoming months.
This case is still under investigation by this office and the FBI, and no further details will be released until formal charges are filed.
