“Welcome to the Crozet Arts and Crafts Festival! Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there,” said the announcer.
For 27 years, families have gathered in the town of Crozet to celebrate this meaningful day.
“People come from pretty far and know that it's Mother's Day weekend,” said festival director Tracy Pugh.
Each year since the beginning of the festival, local artist Nancy Ross has set up a booth selling her pottery.
“We were all in this one building. It was a very small show, and I thought it was worth investing my time in and it’s grown beautifully,” said Ross.
However, her business isn't the only thing that's beautifully grown from this festival. So has a treasured tradition.
Nancy worked her booth nine months pregnant with her daughter, Jennifer, only three years into her festival business.
“She was due on May 23rd, and we were here on Mother's Day very pregnant,” said Ross.
Her daughter has been back to help mom out ever since.
“I don't know that I could get away with not coming on Mother's Day anymore, but we really enjoy coming every year,” said Jennifer Ross.
Even though mom and daughter are technically working, both feel at home with each other's company.
“It's a nice way for me to spend Mother's Day with my mom,” said Jennifer.
“It's a treasure. It's pretty special,” said Nancy.
