Cost of Gasoline Hits Record High

May 14, 2007

The cost of gasoline has hit an all-time high across the U.S. The average cost for a gallon of regular unleaded soared to $3.07 Monday.

The price beats the previous record, set in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, of $3.06. The news comes just a couple weeks before Memorial Day weekend as drivers gear up for the summer vacation season.

The new record has consumers outraged, and some are calling upon the White House and Capitol Hill for answers. The Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources will hold a hearing Tuesday morning on the short-term energy outlook for the summer of 2007.

The average cost of regular gas in Virginia is $2.90 and is $2.92 in Charlottesville.
