The IRS says a record number taxpayers filed their taxes electronically this year. According to the IRS, 77 million people filed their taxes online.
They also said that the average refund, $2,255, was up this year by 2.5 percent over the same time last year. More than 59 million of refunds were deposited directly to either a checking, savings or brokerage account.
The IRS says that taxpayers who chose to get direct deposit received their refunds at least a week sooner than those who didn't. They expect about 58 percent of all returns to be e-filed this year.
